For the 44th Rod Run to the Beach, the Colonial Rod Club decided to change up their previous dash plaque style. In years prior, a car was selected that corresponds to the year of the show. For example, on the 41st Rod Run a 1941 car was chosen for the dash plaque. Since no cars were made during 1944 due to WW2, the club decided to incorporate a 1944 license plate instead with “44TH-RR” on it. Using these elements, I first created a flat antique VA license plate. Once all the elements were complete, I applied multiple textures to add a rusted/worn look to the plate. The dash plaque format itself is a 4’’x2.75’’ metal plate. In order to cover up the extra space on the plaque, I found a vintage postcard from the Town of Colonial Beach where the show is held each year to incorporate as a background. Then I added the final touches with the club logo and the requested text to go along with it. Finally, a paper-like texture was placed over the entire project to tie in the vintage postcard aesthetic with the license plate.
